The so-called Old Town of Riga is (naturally) the city's historic and geographic centre, located on the right bank of the Daugava River. Only remnants of the fortification wall remain that enclosed the city from the 13th to 18th century. But the narrow streets of cobblestone, and a multitude of Medieval architectural wonders are still standing, first and foremost being the churches and their steeples – making for a solely unique skyline. An exhibition dedicated to a large-scale, themed, and stylistically-multishaped water-coloring technique, incorporating three centuries. It marks the varied usage of Latvian watercolor techniques in historical, mythological, and genre paintings, portraits, acts, landscapes, and still life compositions, as well as in book illustrations and theater costume drawings. Watercolor painting was a popular technique in the second half of the 20th century. It covers such topics as formation of amber, its characteristic forms and wide range of colours, amber inclusions, fossilised tree resins throughout the world and their deposits, as well as threads made of this material.
